MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends of Spectrum Center,

We are beginning 2010 with positive visions for this new decade. We, at Spectrum center, are recommitted to bringing you opportunities for growth and exploration. We are expanding online classes and web streaming. You can now watch the very popular EFT Borrowing Benefits with Helen Racz on your computer, live at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. Max Regans online Writers Bootcamp is the perfect way to bring life to an old project or begin a new one. Gentle, therapeutic yoga, mindfulness meditation, Ikebana are all soulful ways to enter a new year. This first newsletter of 2010 is a long one. Please scroll all the way down and savor a taste of whats to come. Forward our newsletter to your friends and encourage them to sign up to receive it.

We ended 2009 with the most magnificent experience of the Deva Premal and Miten concert at the Unity Church sanctuary. The night exceeded expectations. We were transported into musical prayer through the purity of Devas voice. Mitens light hearted devotion and stories brought laughter and Manose's flute lifted our souls and sent us soaring. I watched as people arrived and discovered old friends they had not seen in months or years. Connections and conversations were happening all around. What a beautifully vibrant community we made that night!

Deva, Miten and Manose fell in love with Houston. They each told me how deeply they were touched by the response of the audience and the heartfelt sincerity of those they were privileged to meet that night. Their manager explained that they do not invite the audience onstage at every concert as they did for us. This invitation only happens when they experience a strong connection to the audience and it is right for the separation of the stage to melt away. We will be on their calendar in future U.S. tours. Meanwhile, they will be in Dallas, along with Krishna Das, on Monday, April 5— www.earthrhythms.org.

We look forward to offering you more healing and heart-opening experiences throughout 2010! We thank you with the deepest gratitude for your support and love.

Lovingly,
Rosa Glenn Reilly

“Beauty...elevates human character, without our being conscious of the process, and nurtures peace-loving thoughts...It is the mission of art to elevate human sentiments and to enrich life, to make life more meaningful and enjoyable...”
—M. Okada

Join us for this very special lunchtime experience. In this class you will learn Ikebana— the art of Japanese flower arrangement.

The essence of Ikebana is peace, unity and mindfulness. You invite these qualities into your life as you practice Ikebana, which literally means “to make flowers more alive.” With each arrangement you respect nature by enhancing the beauty of an individual flower. As you give this practice your attention respect, beauty and peace flows into your daily life.

Georgina Regan is known as a healing catalyst. Because of her reputation as a healer she has been invited to participate in scientific studies throughout the world.

Experiments conducted at the University of London posed the question whether healers actually produce an electromagnetic charge which could be measured. In these studies Georgina produced and sustained an electrical current through her hands which could be measured by scientific instrumentation.

She was also invited to be part of the famous Copper Wall Project at the Menninger Clinic conducted by Dr. Elmer Green, creator of biofeedback. It was discovered that Georgina produced 40, 60 and 220 volt pulses of body voltage while working on individuals—a remarkable and rare result. No scientific explanation exists for these phenomena.

Her treatments help relieve mental and emotional stress, promote relaxation of the nervous system, remove blockages of all kinds and accelerate healing.

Georgina is visiting Houston from her home in London, England. She will be taking appointments beginning Saturday,
February 6th.

The Art of Beginnings

Max Regan, MFA

Saturday, February 20
1–6 p.m.

$90

The Roman poet Ausonius once said “To begin is half the work” and for writers, this is especially true. How do we move from experience to inspiration to idea to the page? How can source texts and fragments and notes lead to a first draft? And what do we do with all of our ideas, drafts and beginnings once we have them? Together we will examine all of these questions and experiment with some fun strategies for honoring our inspiration and bringing our ideas to life.

To register call or email Rosa Glenn Reilly at: 713.840.8957 ext 1 or rosa235@earthlink.net.

Experiments in Poetry

Max Regan, MFA

Sunday, February 21
1–6 p.m.

$90

Poetry, more than any other genre, encourages wild and creative experimentation. Poems are visual experiments in sound and meaning, and they can be any subject, (from the mundane to the extraordinary) any style (from roaringly funny to deadly serious) and any length (from 3 lines to 3000) . In this class we will try our hands at different styles, forms and types of poems, including inventing some of our own. For beginning and experienced poets alike, we will harness some of the alchemy and bravery necessary to allow great poems to emerge. Open to any interested participant, no experience necessary.

To register call or email Rosa Glenn Reilly at: 713.840.8957 ext 1 or rosa235@earthlink.net.
