As children, every one of us had a permanent passport into the vast, exciting, undiscovered world of the imagination. We played games of our own making, we invented whole stories and then moved into them. But as we got older, imagination gave way to reality and the necessities of living in the actual world. And yet, we still have that passport buried inside our hearts. We still have the ability to dream, invent, imagine and create. In this workshop, we will dig out that passport and begin exploring all the places that the imagination can take us. Besides inventing characters, places and plots, writers also use their healthy and vibrant imaginations for problem-solving, inventing our own futures, meeting the unexpected as it arises, and invoking the alchemy of our everyday lives. Together we will talk about all these ideas and try a few writing exercises designed to re-awaken the imagination and bring our creativity to life.
Open to writers of any genre or level of experience.

As readers, we have learned which books, novels and movies are based on the Hero’s Journey, which stories involve a descent into the underworld, and which character’s have an Achilles heel. Classic Celtic, Greek and Roman myths have a wealth of ideas, plot structures and character profiles to offer the modern writer. Together we will explore these myths and experiment with weaving some of these elements into our own work. We will also dive into some of our own powerful and unique personal myths - making new text from some of the old “moth-eaten” stories, characters and ideas that have been flying around in our imaginations all these years, without ever landing on the page. And don’t worry, no extensive knowledge of myths is required!
Open to writers of any genre or level of experience.
